Welcome Thomas Ogas the new Executive Director of LARASA...full story...

Thomas Ogas

Thomas Ogas is the President and CEO for the Latin American Research and Service Agency (LARASA), a community based organization whose mission is to lead and influence change to improve the quality of life of Latinos in Colorado. Mr. Ogas joined the LARASA team in August, 2008.

Prior to his move to Denver, Mr. Ogas lived in Grant County, New Mexico where he developed a strong nonprofit management background. Most recently he was the Executive Director/Transit Director for Southwest Regional Transit District/Corre Caminos Transit. Over a five year period he successfully secured recurring funds to triple the vehicle fleet and set fiscally responsible measures to ensure the solvency of the Transit. Under the direction of Mr. Ogas the transit received several awards including New Mexico Transit of the Year and Innovative Program of the Year. While overseeing the Transit, Mr. Ogas’ name appears in several Associated Press publications for his accomplishments in helping a rural transit flourish and helping to create a program (Corre Canitinas) that helped curb the high rate of driving under the influence (DUI).

Mr. Ogas takes pride in his move from private enterprise to non-profit organizations which serve the community. “The most rewarding and gratifying work I have done to date is working with and for the people of the community: working for people with developmental disabilities, mental health issues or just being a liaison and advocate for those in need of another voice.” While working in the private sector, Thomas was honored to be voted by his peers to be Union Shop Steward and a Union Officer.

Mr. Ogas is an experienced organizer, non-profit lobbyist, campaign strategist, media spokesperson and has served on boards, steering committees, management teams. In addition, he volunteered his services for the Grant County Boys and Girls Club, New Mexico Transportation Association, Juvenile Probation Office, Border Area Mental Health, the Mexicano/Chicano Chamber and Southwest Hispanic Roundtable.

Born in San Bernardino, California, and raised in a loving family in New Mexico, Mr. Ogas now lives in Denver. He received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Western New Mexico University. He is married, has three wonderful children and has just become a grandfather.
